Return to Silent Hill, Eve Macklin Interview
Welcome to Eve Macklin, one of the stars of Return to Silent Hill. This production is iconic in the horror genre for its dark characters, atmospheres and psychological plots, and has entertained a large number of fans. Return to Silent Hill is based on the game Silent Hill 2. What will the new chapter be like?
I hope it the audience will feel as unsettled as I did when I got to read the script initially. We meet James in a vulnerable place, who’s desperate to reconnect with his soulmate. Distressing sights and ominous energy are ready to pull him back into Silent Hill in its current dynamic.
Can you reveal to fans who Kaitlyn is, the character you play in Return to Silent Hill?
Kaitlyn is a resident and believes she’s high up among the Silent Hill community. She’s married to Dara and sees herself as a matriarchal figure, and a lover of the finer things in life. Basically, she has absolute notions.
Do you have any anecdotes from the cast of Return to Silent Hill to share with fans?
*Spoiler - We all fell madly in love with the kitten, whose name is Nigel. But he has only one eye, so we called him No-Eye-gel.
This same kitten was immaculately behaved on set, a one take wonder, we couldn’t believe it.
We also took every possible opportunity to dance. This was probably very disturbing to witness from a crew’s point of view, as if the horror in the story wasn’t enough.
I really enjoyed my time in Belgrade. We were really taken care of, and I hope to work there again.
Who is Eve Macklin in everyday life? Is there a hobby or dish you are passionate about? Which role have you played that is most similar to you in everyday life?
I love movement in general, a total pilates geek. I’m from a dance background, centuries ago, but I’m always interested in anatomy and building strength.
I’m very passionate about Ireland, where I’m from, and although I live in London at the moment I’ll visit home as often as I can.
I think I see a bit of myself in most roles, you need to feel compassion for your character or else it’s just going to be two dimensional and the audience will see someone acting. I do like to play the villain though, much more interesting. I really love my character in Brooklyn, who is a total mean girl and again, has very high opinions of herself. Ok, I’m seeing a theme here.
Among the upcoming productions in which you will star are Your Fault: London and Our Fault: London, in which you will reprise the role of Ella. These are adaptations of Mercedes Ron's trilogy Culpa Mia. How will your character fit into the plot of these two highly anticipated films?
I’m sworn to secrecy, but I can tell you that Ella has very much settled into her new life in the UK and has some tricky navigation ahead in terms of her relationships with Noah, Nick and Will. I’m so grateful for the love that we received on My Fault London and it’s been a privilege to be a part of the Fault Family.
Eve Macklin has also starred in television series such as Deception, Titanic: Blood & Steel and Love/Hate. In your opinion, how important has streaming been for the distribution of television series, and has it had any negative impact on cinema attendance?
It’s been a blessing in that it’s increased the amount of content in production, which means we all have more of an opportunity to work.
I love that it’s easier and cheaper for people to watch film now, but nothing will replace a trip to the cinema for me, ever.
I don’t think they realise it, but younger audiences who grew up with streaming, are missing out on how beneficial cinema can be. Total immersion and escape. No phones, just story.
What future projects, other than those mentioned here, are you working on? Can you give your fans a sneak preview?
We’ve wrapped Our Fault and it’s in post production now. I shot an independent film in New York and the east coast of Ireland last year which was extremely fun to work on. The character was an intolerable pain in the ass, so that was nice. I’m not sure where that’s at currently, but I’m looking forward to the seeing finished product.
