The Devil Wears Prada 2: The Movie Plot
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is the upcoming comedy movie. It’s the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada (2006) in which aspiring journalist Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) becomes the assistant to the tyrannical editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) of one of the world’s leading fashion magazines.
The plot centers on Miranda Priestly who is now a rival of Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), her former assistant turned executive. Both compete to increase advertising revenue, amid the decline of print media, while Miranda approaches retirement age.
“Runway isn’t just a magazine, it’s a global icon, a winding road that brings us together again,” says Miranda’s colleague, Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci) in the released trailer. Then Andrea enters the office, and Miranda begins: “who is she?”
Later they meet in Milan during fashion week, and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) appears: “you’re here too?” she asks Andrea; “do you know her?” Miranda wonders; “we were together at Runway,” she responds; “and where was I?” “It’s strange, you’re much more confident. The eyebrows are the same though,” Emily quips, addressing Andrea.
The plot draws inspiration from the sequel to the first novel - Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns from 2013 by Lauren Weisberger - on which the movie is based. In the second novel, the story takes place a decade after the events of the first novel. The Plunge is the name of the magazine, Andy writes and travels as she pleases, Emily organizes parties and secures publicity. Andy has also met Max Harrison, scion of a legendary media family, whom she is about to marry: on the morning of the wedding she discovers a letter that changes her perspective, and realizes that nothing, neither her husband nor her career, is as it seems.
The Devil Wears Prada 2: The Cast of the Sequel
Anne Hathaway is Andrea Sachs, Miranda’s former second assistant, now the new editor-in-chief of Runway. Meryl Streep is Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of the New York-based fashion magazine Runway: she is known as much for her icy, diva-like attitude as for her extraordinary power in the fashion world. In recent hours it was also confirmed that Streep will star in the biographical movie directed by Cameron Crowe, portraying music icon Joni Mitchell.
In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Emily Blunt is Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci is Nigel Kipling, and Kenneth Branagh will be Miranda’s husband; Justin Theroux is Emily’s husband. The direction is by David Frankel, who directed Jerry & Marge Go Large and Collateral Beauty.
The first movie grossed $326.7 million. The Devil Wears Prada has also been adapted into a musical, with a score by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub, and a book by Kate Wetherhead: the show premiered in Chicago in 2022 and recently began previews in the West End with Vanessa Williams in the lead role of Priestly.
