The Mandalorian and Grogu, the movie plot
The Mandalorian and Grogu is an upcoming sci-fi action movie. The plot centers on a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin / The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal), on the run while protecting an alien child, Grogu. The little one escapes capture in a dangerous and lawless galaxy and belongs to the same species as Yoda, the green humanoid alien endowed—with the power of the Force—in the Star Wars saga.
“Hey, don’t touch the buttons,” Din says to Grogu while they are on a spacecraft, in the released trailer. “I’m looking for a hat, gangsters, war criminals,” he tells a colleague who refuses to share information.
“This isn’t about revenge. It’s about avoiding another war,” explains Ward (Sigourney Weaver). “You will suffer, and then it will be his turn,” says Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White) to Din. “The little one will live centuries after me, I won’t be able to protect him forever,” Din states, referring to Grogu. Scenes of fighting and chases follow.
In a clip shown at the D23 event, the bounty hunter clad in silver Beskar metal and Baby Yoda touch fingers. “We are professional bounty hunters, now that he is with me, I will be selective about my assignments,” The Mandalorian says in
voice-over.
The Mandalorian and Grogu, the movie cast
Pedro Pascal recently worked on TV series The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, Freaky Tales, and The Fantastic Four: he plays a veteran Mandalorian bounty hunter residing at the galaxy’s borders.Sigourney Weaver is Ward, colonel and leader of the Adelphi Rangers of the New Republic, who previously served as a pilot for the Rebel Alliance. Steve Blum is Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, Lasat captain in the New Republic and former member of the Ghost crew, first appearing in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Jeremy Allen White is Rotta the Hutt, son of the late crime lord Jabba the Hutt; Jonny Coyne is leader of a remnant faction of the Galactic Empire. Martin Scorsese appears in a cameo as the voice of an Ardennian shopkeeper.
The direction is by Jon Favreau, making his debut behind the camera after writing episodes of The Mandalorian—from which the movie is derived—and The Book of Boba Fett. The screenplay also involved Dave Filoni and George Lucas. Grogu was conceived by Favreau based on the desire to explore the mystery surrounding Yoda and his species, contrasting with Yoda’s journey ending in Return of the Jedi (1983): Favreau believed part of Yoda’s charm was that George Lucas deliberately kept his origins and species details mysterious, hypothesizing that this sense of mystery would extend to Grogu. In mid-2017, shortly after Favreau proposed The Mandalorian to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, she suggested he meet Dave Filoni, co-creator of several Star Wars animated series: “There’s never been anything like this before, except Yoda, and then Yaddle in the prequels on the Jedi Council,” Filoni states. “It’s kind of a sacred thing. We just have to be responsible when telling a story, with what we decide to do. Fans want to know that things are a calculated and careful decision. Then, if you tell a good story, most of the time they follow it.”
The Mandalorian and Grogu, filming and release date
