Spider-Man 4, the plot of the movie
Spider-Man 4 is the fantasy and action movie coming out. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where Spider-Man—after the alteration of space-time stability—faces enemies from other worlds. In that movie, every memory of him and his secret identity was erased.
The sequel’s plot shows Peter Parker now grown up, living in complete solitude, having erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. New York no longer knows his name, and he fights crime, dedicating himself entirely to protecting his city. Meanwhile, a new and mysterious series of crimes gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.
“I don’t believe it. First day at MIT. MJ, pretend you’ve never been this happy in your life,” says Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) to MJ (Zendaya) in a video Spider-Man watches on his phone, in the released trailer. “My name is Peter Parker, you don’t remember me, but we knew each other. Something bad was happening, and the only way to stop it was for everyone to forget me. Because I’m not just Peter Parker, I am Spider-Man,” he says in a recorded video that Ned and MJ watch.
“Come on Frank, you just hit me,” Spider-Man says to (Frank Castle / Punisher 8) who runs him over with a van; “whatever you want,” Frank replies, shooting at him. “If the DNA is mutating, it would be really dangerous,” says professor Bruce Banner / Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), whom Peter asks for help. “Stay away from me,” threatens Mac Gargan / Scorpion (Michael Mando), the new rival.
Another off-screen voice warns Peter of what is about to happen, saying: “Spiders have three life cycles, and between cycles they can become vulnerable to threats. For those spiders that survive, it’s a kind of rebirth.” Then Peter gives flowers to Ned and MJ: “They’re for the new house. I’m just a neighbor from across the hall.” “A friendly neighbor,” replies MJ, almost choking Peter with the drink.
In the movie, the elements of the Multiverse will be scaled down, with a smaller presence (read the interview with the concept artist of Spider-Man).
Spider-Man 4, the cast of the movie
Tom Holland is Spider-Man: after Doctor Stephen Strange’s spell at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the world has forgotten Parker’s existence and now he focuses on anonymously protecting New York City from street crime; he begins to experience a mutation of his spider powers, such as shooting organic webs from his wrists, similar to the version of the character played by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series (2002-2007).
Zendaya is Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, former classmate and ex-girlfriend of Parker, who attends the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with Leeds; she now has a new love interest, causing conflict for Parker. Jacob Batalon is Ned Leeds, Parker’s former best friend; Jon Bernthal plays Frank Castle / Punisher, a vigilante who aims to fight crime by any means necessary.
Michael Mando is Mac Gargan / Scorpion, a criminal wearing armor equipped with a mechanized tail similar to a scorpion’s: he was captured by Spider-Man and arrested in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). Mark Ruffalo is Bruce Banner / Hulk, founding Avenger and scientist who, due to gamma radiation exposure, transforms into a muscular humanoid when angry or agitated; he is now a university professor at Empire State University teaching quantum mechanics. Marvin Jones III plays Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, a crime boss with albinism, nearly indestructible skin, and superhuman strength. Eman Esfandi is MJ’s new partner, with Tramell Tillman as Bill, Sadie Sink also present.
The director is Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Right to Oppose.
The production is by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures. Filming began in August 2025 in Glasgow, Scotland, under the working title Blue Oasis, with Brett Pawlak returning as director of photography after many previous Cretton movies. Glasgow locations include Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate, standing in for New York, including one of the movie’s action sequences. Filming then moved to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, England, and Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, concluding in December.
Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $1.9 billion, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in US cinemas on July 31, 2026.
