Meg 2: The Trench is the upcoming sci-fi, action and horror movie. Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) leads a research team on an exploratory dive into the depths of the ocean. Their journey becomes complicated when a mining operation threatens them, forcing them into a battle for survival. They are confronted by colossal prehistoric sharks.

Jason Statham recently worked in Fast X as Shaw, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre. Also in the cast are Sienna Guillory, who starred in Clifford; Cliff Curtis who has the role of Tonowari in Avatar - The Way of Water. It is directed by Ben Wheatley, who previously directed Rebecca and In the Earth. The screenplay is based on the novel The Trench by Steve Alten, published in 1999: from the story, the first movie, The Meg (2018), was also made, which did not receive good critical response but grossed $530.2 million.

The production is by CMC Pictures, DF Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures. Filming began in January 2022 at Leavesden Studios in London, and continued through May. Meg 2: The Trench is released in theaters on August 4, 2023.
