I Can Only Imagine 2, The Plot of the Movie
I Can Only Imagine 2 is the drama movie and biopic coming soon. It's the sequel to I Can Only Imagine (2018), where MercyMe's song was the inspiration to understand how it was written, through the conflicted relationship between father and son.
In the sequel, singer Bart Millard (John Michael Finley) is at the peak of his career, with sold-out arenas. But he struggles to keep his family together, particularly due to the conflicted relationship with his son Sam (Sammy Dell).
When Tim Timmons (Milo Ventimiglia), an emerging musician joins the band for their most important tour, Bart's perspective changes: but Tim also brings his own pain and personal secrets.
I Can Only Imagine 2, The Cast of the Movie
John Michael Finley starred in the first movie, and recently in The Curse of Bridge Hollow and on stage in Come From Away.
Milo Ventimiglia was the lead in the series This Is Us, and The Company You Keep: he also worked on the movie Land of Bad. Sophie Skelton also joins the cast, replacing Madeline Carroll as Shannon Street, Bart's wife: the actress performed in Outlander episodes, and recently appeared in Roses Are Red and the miniseries Day of the Jackal. Completing the cast is Arielle Kebbel, who plays Hilary Timmons: she participated in the series 9-1-1 and the thriller The Inhabitant. Dennis Quaid also returns as Bart's father.
The directors are Andrew Erwin and Brent McCorkle: Erwin previously directed the first movie, and Jesus Revolution, American Underdog and the new Young Washington. The 2018 movie grossed 86 million dollars.
I Can Only Imagine 2, Filming and Release Date of the Movie
The production is by Kingdom Story Company, LD Entertainment and Kevin Downes Productions. Filming began in spring 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, and Atlanta. "Returning to the world of Imagine has been a deeply personal and moving journey, for me and for everyone who helped bring this uplifting story to life - said Brent McCorkle, as reported by Deadline - its themes about finding gratitude in pain and discovering beauty that rises from ashes seem more relevant now than ever."
The movie releases in the United States on February 20, 2026.
