Not Without Hope, the plot of the movie

Not Without Hope is an upcoming drama and thriller movie. In 2009, four friends—Nick Schuyler (Zachary Levi) and Will Bleakley (Marshall Cook)—who played football at the University of South Florida—and NFL players Marquis Cooper (Quentin Plair) and Corey Smith (Miles Terrell) become stranded at sea off the Florida coast. Their boat capsizes, forcing Coast Guard Captain Timothy Close (Josh Duhamel) to oversee the rescue operations as a storm approaches.

“Everything will be fine, we’re four strong men,” Nick tells his wife in the released trailer. The four then end up in the water. “Four men in the middle of a giant storm,” says a rescue operation coordinator. “I’ll do everything in my power to bring them home,” Timothy declares.

“I become strong. You become strong. We become strong,” the four shout in the water.

Not Without Hope, the movie cast

Zachary Levi has starred in Sarah’s Oil and is the protagonist in Shazam! and Spy Kids: Armageddon. Josh Duhamel has worked on Ransom Canyon, Off the Grid, and Transformers - The Last Knight. Marshall Cook has appeared in Shadow Force and the TV series High Potential.

The movie is directed by British filmmaker Joe Carnahan. The screenplay is entrusted to E. Nicholas Mariani and is based on the eponymous 2010 book by Nick Schuyler and Jeré Longman, published by William Morrow. The film adaptation of Not Without Hope had already been announced in 2014 with Dwayne Johnson as the lead, but was put on hold due to production issues.

In reality, the group could not dislodge the anchor while a violent storm was approaching, making rescue operations difficult. The boat overturned, and Schuyler and his friends ended up in the freezing waters for 46 hours.

The production is by Volition Media, K. Jam Media, and Altit Media Group. Filming took place in Malta in June 2023. The movie will be released in the United States on December 12, 2025.
