Tony, the Movie's Plot

Tony is the drama movie coming out. The plot focuses on a specific period in the life of renowned chef Anthony Bourdain (Dominic Sessa): after cooking in Manhattan as a chef throughout the '80s, he becomes a celebrity thanks to his bestseller "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly". Here Bourdain reveals secrets of life in the kitchen. The chef dies by suicide in 2018.

"Didn't you make a hole in the principal's door?" asks Nancy (Emilia Jones) in the released trailer. After losing his writing scholarship, he starts working in a restaurant as a cook. "Have you ever worked in a kitchen?" Ciro (Antonio Banderas) asks him. "We'll start with this special meal. Every Friday, something elegant but unpretentious" Tony says to Ciro, convincing him.

Tony, the Movie's Cast

Dominic Sessa acted in The Holdovers and in the new Now You See Me 3; Emilia Jones worked on CODA - winner of the Oscar for best movie in 2022 - and in episodes of Locke & Key, in the role of Kinsey Locke, and of Task with Mark Ruffalo.

The cast also includes Leo Woodall, seen recently in the episodes of Vladimir, Prime Target (read the interview) and One Day; Antonio Banderas, who acted in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and who for his role in Dolor y Gloria by Pedro Almodóvar won the award at the Cannes Festival and had an Oscar nomination.

The direction is by Matt Johnson, who directed BlackBerry, on the meteoric rise and disappearance of the world's first smartphone. In 2016 he also directed Operation Avalanche.

Tony, the Movie's Production and Release

The production is by A24, Star Thrower Entertainment and Zapruder Films. Filming took place from April to August 2025, and the movie comes out in American theaters in August 2026.
