The Devil Wears Prada 2 - The Possible Plot of the Sequel
The Devil Wears Prada 3 is a comedy-drama movie not yet in development. It would be the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada 2, currently in theaters, which tells the story of the fashion magazine director Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) confronting Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), newly appointed head of special articles at Runway. Together, the two must try to convince Miranda's former assistant, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now head of Dior's US operations, to buy advertising space.
When asked about the possible sequel and what is needed to put it into production, Meryl Streep responded to People magazine: "The screenplay." "A good screenplay. It's all about the screenplay," agreed Blunt. "And then, everyone has to say yes," added Hathaway. "The four main protagonists have to be involved," Blunt emphasized, referring to the three actresses plus Stanley Tucci, a returning cast member married to Blunt's sister, Felicity. "They have to be alive," Streep joked.
New cast members Simone Ashley and Helen J. Shen, who play Amari Mari, Charlie, and Jin Chao respectively, discussed the possibility of a third movie.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Caleb Hearon speculated it might not materialize before 2046, referring to the 20 years it took after the first movie for The Devil Wears Prada 2 to be made, but Simone Ashley was adamant that "it won't take 20 years." Caleb Hearon exclaimed, "Oh my God. In 2046..."
Regarding a hypothetical plot for The Devil Wears Prada 3, Hearon hopes to reunite with Ashley and Shen. "I hope we can run Runway or something together. That would be fun." Shen fully agrees, seeing Amari, Miranda Priestly's first assistant, in charge. Ashley, who plays Amari, believes this outcome is "inevitable."
Caleb Hearon: "I don't know, but I hope the three of us do something together. I hope we manage Runway or something like that together. That would be fun."
Shen added that, regardless of the plot, she just wants the chance to "spend time on set" with her castmates because she had "a lot of fun" working with them and promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2. "I'm having so much fun doing all this with you," she said. "I want nothing more than to spend time on set. So wherever we are, I'll be there."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 - The Possible Cast of the Sequel
In the sequel, it is certain that Meryl Streep will return as Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway; Anne Hathaway as Andrea "Andy" Sachs, journalist and former second assistant to Miranda who becomes the new head of Runway's columns.
Emily Blunt will be Emily Charlton, Miranda's former first assistant, now a senior executive at Dior; Stanley Tucci will be Nigel Kipling, Miranda's right-hand man; Justin Theroux might play Benji Barnes, Emily's boyfriend; Kenneth Branagh will be Stuart Simmons, Miranda's new husband.
The direction would most likely again be entrusted to David Frankel, who directed the previous two movies, with a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna. The first movie was based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, but the second movie was not adapted from the sequel novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns (2013); therefore, The Devil Wears Prada 3 could also draw inspiration from this narrative. In the second novel, the story is set a decade after the events of the first novel. The magazine is called The Plunge, Andy writes and travels at her leisure, Emily organizes parties and secures advertising. Andy has also met Max Harrison, heir to a legendary media family, whom she is about to marry: on the morning of the wedding, she discovers a letter that changes her view of things, realizing that nothing—neither her husband nor her career—is as it seems.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has so far grossed 234 million dollars.
