The film also tells of courage in a hostile place. What do you think is the significance of the movie especially in the challenging political landscape that is America this year?

Yes! It has been a gift to be in a film that says something that I so believe in about race in this country. Nat Turner was, in essence, a precursor of what we know today as  "Black Lives Matter.” He was the first documented slave to have the fortitude to stand up to the white planation owners. But, at the same time, when you see the film he was a person of the people and for the people who truly believed in equality for all,  not just African Americans. Race is a complex matter and when audiences see the film, the experience is that everything is not just black & white. Nate has written a film that has started the conversation. Some will not be able to see the bigger picture past their own feelings, but I passionately believe each and every person on this planet should see this film as it opens hearts.  Mine certainly has been.
