Carolina Caroline: The Plot of the Crime and Romance Road Movie

Carolina Caroline is the crime and romance movie coming out. The plot focuses on Caroline Daniels (Samara Weaving) who desires to leave her small Texas town. When she meets a charismatic con man (Kyle Gallner), the two embark on a flight across the American Southeast, between robberies, chases and craving for danger.

"Human behavior is a system, and so if you know it, you can exploit that system" says the con man to Caroline, in the released trailer. They then execute a robbery, but it doesn't go as planned.

Samara Weaving is in theaters with Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come, and has acted in Over Your Dead Body. Kyle Gallner has worked on Strange Darling and Smile 2. In the cast are Kyra Sedgwick and Jon Gries.

Carolina Caroline: Direction, Production and Filming of the Movie

The direction is by Adam Carter Rehmeier, who directed Snack Shack and Dinner in America, a punk rock romantic comedy with Gallner that had its premiere at Sundance and developed a cult following after going viral on TikTok in 2024. "I'm thrilled to work with Magnolia to bring Carolina Caroline to audiences in theaters - he said - for me, chemistry is everything in a love story—and Samara and Kyle's performances are nothing short of electric. Their criminal escape across the American South deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible."

Filming took place in Kentucky in September 2024.

Carolina Caroline: Critics' Reviews and Release Date

The movie was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025, receiving positive reviews. For Collider "Rehmeier's version of an outlaw love story wrapped in a road movie is so enjoyable that it's impossible to criticize it too much. From the country music that weaves into the soundtrack to the incredible chemistry between the two actors".

For Film Threat "the strong point of Carolina Caroline is its look and the atmosphere it conveys". For IndieWire "the erotic chemistry between Gallner and Weaving, which begins in a subdued way but quickly reaches its climax, helps to smooth out the more dissonant parts of Carolina Caroline that constitute the middle section of the movie".

The movie is released in American theaters on June 5, 2026.
