Drama Movie Rebuilding: Home Reconstruction Story with Josh O'Connor and Meghann Fahy

Rebuilding, the Movie’s Plot

Rebuildingis the upcoming drama movie. The plot tells the story of Dusty (Josh O’Connor), a cowboy who loses his ranch due to devastating fires. Forced to take refuge in a FEMA camp – the civil protection agency – he unexpectedly begins to reconnect with his daughter and ex-wife Ruby (Meghann Fahy), from whom he had been separated, and rebuilds his life together with other survivors.

“What’s a wi-fi?” asks his daughter in the released trailer. “For her, you’re reborn. You haven’t earned it, but that’s how life goes,” Ruby tells Dusty. “I’ll rebuild this part exactly as it was,” says Dusty, referring to the house. “I know people who have lost everything. I still have some stuff.”

The cast also includes Amy Madigan, previously seen in episodes of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels; Jefferson Mays, interpreter of the series Julia.

Rebuilding, Critical Reviews and Release Date

The movie was presented at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it received positive reviews. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “something more complex and rewarding than surface tension is at play here, leading to a breathtakingly sincere conclusion.”

For The A.V. Club, “the bonds explored in the movie seem authentically human, rather than endowed with cloying optimism.” For The Guardian, “recovery has been shown to be a hard and jagged process and, although rebuilding doesn’t offer many specific details, it proposes a hope that might be enough for now.”

A release date for the movie has not yet been decided. The movie will release in U.S. theaters on November 14, 2025.
