Paranormal Activity 8: horror sequel plot, release date and updates
Paranormal Activity 8: plot, release date and updates on the found-footage horror sequel.
Paranormal Activity 8, plot details and anticipations
Paranormal Activity 8 is the upcoming horror movie currently in production. The plot has not yet been revealed, but director Ian Tuason has stated that he aims to bring the franchise back to its found-footage roots, using modern technology to create a new and terrifying experience.
In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Tuason said: "The technology—the camera technology—has advanced to a point where it's become an important part of the movie and what I want to accomplish there." Tuason often incorporates audio and visual tech elements in his movie Undertone.
Paranormal Activity 8, release date and production
The project was announced in January 2026, when Paramount set the release date for May 21, 2027. The movie will be co-financed by Paramount and the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster merger, marking the first time James Wan joins the franchise as a producer. Wan previously worked on The Conjuring, Insidious and Saw.
Alongside Wan, Jason Blum and franchise creator Oren Peli will produce the film for Solana Films. Executive producers include Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Steven Schneider.
Paranormal Activity 8, cast updates
No cast members have been officially announced for Paranormal Activity 8. The franchise traditionally features unknown or emerging actors to preserve the realism of the found-footage style, and Tuason is expected to follow this approach.
Tuason was selected after pitching his vision directly to Jason Blum and James Wan. “I felt that the franchise couldn’t be rebooted in any other way,” he said.
Paranormal Activity 8, director and influences
Undertone, released by A24 in March 2026, follows an investigation into mysterious audio recordings that trigger sinister events, grossing $18.5 million. Tuason confirmed that Paranormal Activity heavily influenced the film.
Before Undertone, Tuason worked in virtual reality horror, an experience that reinforced his passion for traditional filmmaking. He also ruled out any VR expansion for Paranormal Activity 8.
Paranormal Activity 8, franchise success
The original Paranormal Activity, directed by Oren Peli, was made on a $15,000 budget and grossed $194 million worldwide, becoming one of the most profitable films ever.
The franchise has since expanded into seven movies, earning nearly $900 million globally and redefining the found-footage horror genre.
Paranormal Activity 8, where to watch the movies
The franchise includes Paranormal Activity (2007), Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), Paranormal Activity 4 (2012), The Marked Ones (2014), The Ghost Dimension (2015), and Paranormal Activity 7 (2021).
They are available on-demand on TimVision, Google Play, Chili, iTunes and Microsoft Store. Some titles are also available on Netflix and Rakuten.
