Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Debuts, tv series with Sam Witwer and Wagner Moura
Star Wars animated series set after The Clone Wars follows Maul rebuilding criminal syndicate
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is the animated series launching April 6, 2026 exclusively on Disney+. The series will release two episodes weekly, with the final two episodes arriving May 4, 2026 to coincide with Star Wars Day.
Set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the series follows Maul as he works to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet beyond the Empire's control. His path intersects with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may become the apprentice he seeks for his pursuit of revenge.
Dave Filoni created the series based on Star Wars and characters created by George Lucas. Filoni developed the project alongside Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau serving as supervising director. The executive producers include Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Michnovetz, Rau, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes, while Alex Spotswood holds the role of co-executive producer.
The original voice cast features Sam Witwer as Maul and Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara. Oscar nominee Wagner Moura voices Brander Lawson, while Richard Ayoade performs Two-Boots and Dennis Haysbert voices Master Eeko-Dio-Daki. Chris Diamantopoulos plays Looti Vario, Charlie Bushnell voices Rylee Lawson, and Vanessa Marshall returns as Rook Kast. David W. Collins voices Spybot, A.J. LoCascio performs Marrok, and Steve Blum voices Icarus.
Sam Witwer previously voiced Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, establishing the character's animated presence across multiple series. Wagner Moura, known for his Oscar-nominated performance in Narcos and his role in Civil War (2024), brings his dramatic range to the animated format. Gideon Adlon appeared in The Craft: Legacy (2020) and the series The Society (2019). Charlie Bushnell recently starred in Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023-2024), while Vanessa Marshall has voiced characters across the Star Wars animated universe, including Hera Syndulla in Star Wars Rebels.
