Jane Powell, born Suzanne Lorraine Burce on April 1, 1929, in Portland, Oregon, was one of the most prominent figures of Hollywood’s golden age of musicals. Powell died on September 16, 2021, in Wilton, Connecticut, at the age of 92. Jane Powell’s career started when she was only five years old, participating in children’s radio programs in Portland. During World War II, she earned the title of Oregon Victory Girl, promoting war bond sales and appearing on local radio broadcasts. In 1943, at fourteen, she won a talent show in California and signed a contract with MGM, which changed her name to Jane Powell.

Her film debut came in 1944 with Song of the Open Road. She later appeared in A Date with Judy (1948) alongside Elizabeth Taylor and danced with Fred Astaire in Royal Wedding (1951). The role that marked the peak of her career was Milly in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), directed by Stanley Donen.

Nerney, publicist Jim Fitzgerald, David Stellar Parlour, and former child actor Dickie Moore, with whom she remained until his death in 2015.

In her later years, Powell maintained a relationship with Turner Classic Movies, participating in presentations and celebrations of classic films. Her career officially ended in 2007. No posthumous films or projects are planned, as she had long retired.
